Objections & Appeals

The Guyana Revenue Authority wishes to notify taxpayers that where there are Objections to, and appeals for a review of taxes assessed by the Commissioner General, then same can be addressed through the established Boards of Review governed by the Laws of Guyana.

Taxpayers are reminded that there are three Boards of Review to which they can appeal their cases if they are dissatisfied with the Commissioner-General’s decision regarding their objection to an assessment. The Boards of Review are as follows:

  1. Income Tax Board of Review
  2. VAT Board of Review
  3. Customs Tribunal

    The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) is expected to commence the new motor vehicle registration “TT” series shortly.  Commissioner General of the GRA Mr. Khurshid Sattaur, in his capacity as Chief Licencing Officer has given approval for the new series to commence.

    I wish to advise that I am employed by the Revenue Authority which is a body corporate established by an Act of Parliament (Cap 79:04). As a body corporate, the Revenue Authority employs all employees on agreed terms and conditions between the employee and the Authority.

    Demand for service determines Sections in GRA that functions during lunch hours
    The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has taken note of the letter written by Mr. Nicholas McDavid to the press on Monday, October 27, 2014 claiming that staff of the GRA were “out to lunch” when he went  to transact business on Friday Oct. 24, 2014.

    Mr. McDavid acknowledged that he went to the office at the time of the lunch break but did not specify the particular section in the GRA that was unavailable at the time.

    The GRA appreciates the feedback and will continue to endeavour to institute change with the taxpayers comfort in mind.

    GRA has a grievance handling procedure in place to resolve work related issues - letter should have been sent to the agency

    Reference is made to a letter to the editor published in the Kaieteur News on October 17, 2014 titled ‘What will be uncovered if an audit is done on Mr. Sattaur?’ The letter was read and its content noted. We thank the author of the letter for the concerns stated.

    The Guyana Revenue Authority is advising persons who are desirous of importing cellular phones for retail purpose that they would be entitled to an exemption from the payment of customs duty applicable, provided that they comply with certain regulations as stipulated by the GRA.

  • Notice to persons importing vehicles 4yrs and older

    Persons contemplating use of Remigrant Scheme urged to be cognizant of relevant laws
    The Guyana Revenue Authority in keeping with its mandate to promote compliance with the laws, regulations and policies it administers, continues to remind taxpayers of the various requirements that must be met in order to be deemed compliant.

    As such, the GRA is once again reminding the taxpaying public that concessions are not by right, but have preconditions applying as well as post conditions as to the application of those concessions.
