Job Responsibilities:

  • Planning, coordinating, organising and managing the daily operations of the Unit in order to achieve goals as set out in the Operational Plan.
  • Preparing the Annual Work Plan for the Drug Enforcement Unit in accordance with the division’s policy guidelines and procedures.
  • Delegating duties, responsibilities, activities and work commitments to subordinate staff and monitoring their performance to ensure timely completion and quality work.
  • Ensuring the efficient scrutinising of containers profiled for examination for narcotics and psychotropic substances.
  • Directing exercises and ensuring that the seizure of illegal drugs is carried out in accordance with the laws and department’s Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs).
  • Identifying and maintaining a management profile of risk and threats to the efficient achievement of the Unit’s targets and objectives.
  • Approving the physical examinations of cargo and reviews reports submitted by Officers to ensure examination exercises were carried out in compliance with policies, laws and regulations. 
  • Representing GRA in court to assist in the prosecution of offenders.
  • Liaising with internal units/divisions in matters of mutual interest.
  • Preparing reports on the results achieved, assignments in progress and proposed and submits as required to the Senior Manager.

Job Specification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public/Business Management, Economics, Accountancy, LLB, Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), or any other equivalent qualifications with a minimum of three (3) years relevant experience as a Group Leader conducting Investigations / Interrogation.

OR

  • A Diploma in Communication, Public Management, Accountancy with eight (8) years relevant working experience at a supervisory level in a similar field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Tax Laws administered by GRA through Customs Procedures and Trade Policies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of investigative techniques, demonstrated a track record in intelligence work and firearm.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SOPs, TRIPS and PC Applications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral communication, demonstrated leadership, organisational and managerial skills, analytical, persuasive and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to organise, motivate and resolve conflict
  • High level of Integrity.
