Job Purpose:
To board, detect and report any illegal activities in violation of Customs and related and ensuring that all duties and taxes are paid for cargo.
Job Responsibilities:
- Overlooking the discharging and loading of cargo onto or into vessels to ensure compliance with laws and policies.
- Escorting vessels and monitoring same until requisite duties and taxes have been remitted to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).
- Patrolling riverine areas and conduct spot checks to identify any suspicious or illicit activity and investigate same.
- Witnessing the examination of discharge to ensure there is no unauthorized removal of cargo.
- Rummaging vessels both incoming and outgoing for any smuggled/uncustomed/prohibited items and issue rummage certificates to validate clearance.
- Boarding vessel and ensure cargo stated on manifest corresponds with that on board the vessel for both incoming and outgoing vessel.
- Preserving and securing GRA assets for optimum performance and to prevent loss or damage.
- Maintaining incoming and outgoing registers for coastal and international vessels for administrative references.
- Dispatching and returning files requested by Internal Audit Division to effect necessary actions.
- Any other related duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
- Five (5) CXC subjects inclusive of Mathematics/Principles of Accounts and English Language or any other equivalent qualification with a minimum of one (1) year relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of the mission, mandate, goals, objectives, structure, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the mission, mandate, goals and objective of the Guyana Revenue Authority.
- Knowledge of the Customs Act, Regulations, Tariff and Customs Procedures Code.
- Knowledge of the Customs forms and procedures for the clearing of goods.
- Knowledge of security and monitoring of restricted areas.
- Successful completion of Patrol Officer Training Programme.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively provide security in restricted areas.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work long and flexible hours.
