The procedure for Motor Vehicle registration at the Licence Revenue Office (LRO) has been further simplified. Motor vehicles with an engine capacity less than 2000cc, no longer require pre-registration examination.
This measure, which was first implemented on July 3, 2023 for motor vehicles less than 1500cc, imported and classified under HS 87.03 as “passenger-type vehicles”, is now expanded to include Vehicles less than 2000cc.
Effective April 18, 2024, vehicles with an engine capacity less than 2000cc will no longer have to be presented for an examination at the Licence Revenue Office (LRO) prior to first registration. This is subject to the completion and submission of a Vehicle Registration Form with the Customs declaration in ASYCUDA. The form, which is available on www.gra.gov.gy, must include particulars such as the chassis number, engine number, colour, make, model, engine capacity, etc.
It is the responsibility of Dealers and Brokers to ensure that the declared particulars are accurate, inclusive of applicable taxes, since appropriate penalties such as possible suspension/revocation of your licences for non-compliance are pertinent.
In cases where vehicle particulars cannot be verified at the port, such vehicle(s) will be required to be presented to LRO for examination to facilitate verification of the details.
If you require additional information or guidance, do not hesitate to contact the office of the Comptroller on telephone numbers 227-6060, Extension 2601-03.
